Train like a Virgin Galactic Astronaut
Experience the thrill of a lifetime at the NASTAR Center, which offers state-of the-art equipment integral to the training of astronauts and military & civilian pilots. The NASTAR center is the only commercial use flight training facility in the world and its most renowned device is the high performance human centrifuge (STS-400/ATFS-400), which exposes you to the realistic sensations of flight in a dynamic and safe environment.
The STS-400/ATFS-400 is modeled after an authentic cockpit module and comes complete with vivid real-world displays, control systems and ambient surround sound.
During your space training, you will learn the dynamics of space travel, the effects of G forces as well as practice comprehensive techniques used by real NASA astronauts. This will physically and mentally prepare you to handle the physiological stresses that affect your body during space travel.
After hands-on training from their expert instructors, it’s now your turn to embark on a “Wickedly Realistic” and “Absolutely Fantastic” Virgin Galactic Sub-Orbital flight experience that goes beyond the edge of space and back. You will immerse yourself in the STS-400/ATFS-400 cockpit and find yourself believing you are experiencing the real thing!
It begins with a countdown to release at a cruise altitude of 50,000 ft (15 240 m), where you drop into quiet free fall. The sound of the engines fades away and then suddenly, the rocket booster ignites! Pressed back and down into your seat, you are sent hurtling towards the stars at over 3 times the speed of sound!
As the clear blue sky of day fades to black, the weight of the world literally fades away. Floating at 360,000 ft (109 278m) above the earth, the beauty and the silent serenity of space envelops you. As you roll gracefully through apogee, you will behold a life changing perspective of our planet that has until now, only been seen by an elite few. Gravity then takes hold, accelerating you towards Earth, where you sustain up to 6 G’s on reentry.
